Could you help a young person rediscover their confidence in learning?

At Kettering Science Academy, we believe that every young person has brilliance within them. Our job is to find it, nurture it and help it shine. We know that when students struggle with learning, the right support, encouragement and teaching can make all the difference.

We are looking to appoint enthusiastic and ambitious Higher Level Teaching Assistants to join our English, Mathematics and Science departments. These are exciting opportunities for graduates considering a career in teaching, individuals looking to develop their experience in education, or experienced HLTAs who want to make a real difference to young people's learning.

We believe that kids do well if they can and that every child deserves adults who are committed to finding ways to help them succeed, whatever their starting point.

About the role

This is much more than a traditional classroom support role.

Working closely with subject teachers and curriculum leaders, you will plan and deliver targeted academic interventions to individuals and small groups of students who need additional support to succeed in English, Mathematics or Science.

You will help students overcome gaps in their knowledge, develop essential skills and, just as importantly, rebuild their confidence as learners.

Depending on your subject specialism, your work might involve developing reading fluency and comprehension, strengthening mathematical understanding and reasoning, or helping students grasp important scientific concepts.

You will be an integral part of a curriculum team, working alongside experienced teachers to understand how students learn, adapt approaches to meet individual needs and evaluate the impact of your work.

Thinking about becoming a teacher?

If you are a graduate considering a career in teaching, this could be a fantastic place to start.

As part of Brooke Weston Trust, we have close links with the Northamptonshire Teaching School Hub and access to a wide network of experienced teachers, subject specialists and professional development opportunities.

You will gain valuable, practical experience of planning and delivering learning, assessing progress, supporting students with different needs and understanding what makes teaching effective.

For those interested in progressing into teaching, we can offer advice, guidance and support in exploring potential teacher training pathways through our Trust and Teaching School Hub connections, subject to individual eligibility and programme availability.

Who are we looking for?

We would particularly welcome applications from graduates in English, Mathematics, Science or related subjects, including those considering teacher training in the future.

We are equally interested in hearing from experienced teaching assistants or other individuals who have the subject knowledge, commitment and enthusiasm to help students succeed.

Above all, we are looking for people who:

  • - Have strong subject knowledge in English, Mathematics or Science.

  • - Enjoy working with young people and can build positive, encouraging relationships.

  • - Believe that every child can make progress with the right teaching and support.

  • - Are patient, resilient and willing to find different approaches when something isn't working.

  • - Have high expectations, alongside an understanding of the barriers some students face.

  • - Are reflective, keen to learn and excited about developing their own practice.

  • - Want to be part of a supportive and ambitious school community.

What can we offer you?

Kettering Science Academy is a school with a strong commitment to inclusion, professional learning and doing what is right for young people.

You will benefit from:

  • - The opportunity to work alongside experienced subject specialists and school leaders.

  • - Practical experience of planning, delivering and evaluating learning within a secondary school.

  • - Training in evidence-informed approaches, including precision teaching, adaptive teaching and strategies to support students with additional learning needs.

    - Access to professional development through Brooke Weston Trust and its Centre for Professional Development.

  • - Links to the Northamptonshire Teaching School Hub and opportunities to explore future teacher training pathways.

  • - A collaborative team that will support your development and value your contribution.

We are proud of the progress we are making at Kettering Science Academy, but we also recognise that there is more to do. We want colleagues who are excited by that challenge and who believe, as we do, that young people deserve adults who will find a way to help them succeed.

Whether you are taking your first steps towards a career in teaching or bringing experience from an existing educational role, we would love to hear from you.
