HLTA job summary

We are seeking to appoint a caring, enthusiastic, and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with class teachers, the SENDCo, and senior leaders to support pupils with special educational and behavioural needs, enabling them to access learning and reach their full potential. This rewarding role involves planning, preparing, and delivering targeted learning activities both independently and alongside teaching staff.

You will provide one-to-one and small group support within the classroom setting, lead intervention programmes, and contribute to the monitoring and assessment of pupil progress. The HLTA will also play a key role in supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and personal development, helping to create a positive and nurturing environment across the school. Additional responsibilities include supervising pupils during breaks and lunchtimes, supporting transition periods, and contributing to whole-school initiatives that promote inclusion and wellbeing.

We are looking for someone who is patient, flexible, and passionate about supporting children’s learning and wellbeing, with the ability to work independently and take responsibility for delegated tasks. 32.5 hours a week - Pro Rata.

Hours: 8:30 - 3:30 with a half an hour unpaid lunch break.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant you will:

Plan and teach lessons to cover teacher release time for PPA / Subject / ECT and

Leadership time.

Support pupils with special educational and behavioural needs, both one-to-one and in

small groups.

Assist the class teacher and SENDCo in delivering planned learning activities and

adapting them to pupils’ needs.

Monitor and provide feedback on pupils’ progress, behaviour, and engagement.

Help create a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment.

Support pupils’ social, emotional, and personal development.

Supervise pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, and school activities as required.

Liaise with teachers, parents, and external professionals to support pupil learning.

Assist with preparation of classroom resources and learning materials.

Support pupils’ independence with personal care, health, hygiene, and daily routines

where needed.
