HLTA (SEND Support) job summary
Work where it matters most, achieve what matters more.
Be part of a team where passion meets purpose, as we work together where the challenge is greatest to change the lives and build the futures of children and young people.
At Ormiston Latimer Academy, we're looking for a caring, creative and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our close-knit team. Reporting to our Head of School, it's a role with real influence: alongside working directly with our learners, you'll spearhead our mental health and wellbeing strategy and help shape how we support every young person to feel safe, settled and ready to learn.
Day to day, you'll work hand in hand with our teachers and SENDCo team to plan and deliver learning for individuals, small groups and, at times, whole classes. You'll get to know our learners and their families, spot early when someone might be at risk of suspension, and put the right support in place - from IEPs to interventions such as literacy, anger management and circle time. You'll also support learners as they move back into mainstream schools, champion inclusion and reintegration, and celebrate every bit of progress along the way. Beyond the classroom, you'll line manage and train our Learning Support Practitioners, gather learner and parent voice each term, help run enrichment sessions, rewards and trips, and work with partner agencies to make sure every learner gets the support they need.
We'd love to hear from you if you're educated to degree level or have considerable experience across a range of education settings, and you bring expert knowledge in at least three areas of SEN/SEBD intervention - such as dyscalculia, anger management or restorative justice. A track record of getting projects off the ground in a school, a reflective approach to your own practice and a genuine commitment to equal opportunities will help you thrive here. Most of all, we're looking for someone who believes in our young people and wants to help them flourish. If that sounds like you, we can't wait to meet you.
Ormiston Latimer Academy is an alternative provision school in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, serving learners aged 11-16. The academy’s vision is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where strong relationships are the foundation of learning, aspiration is encouraged in every individual and support is tailored to empower all learners to thrive.
Located in Kensington and Chelsea, Ormiston Latimer Academy provides a caring environment based on integrity, mutual respect and understanding. We seek to reignite passion for education and aspiration in every young person. Each learner is treated as an individual and is supported within an environment that develops a love of learning alongside the social and emotional skills needed for life beyond education.
We are a small provision supporting learners who are at risk of, or have been excluded from, mainstream settings. Our specialist approach focuses on developing young people’s capabilities, their potential for employability, their ability to build healthy relationships and to make safe, positive life choices. We believe that success for our young people comes through personalised support, high expectations and strong, trusting relationships.
Our approach considers each learner’s educational experiences to date, their social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, family context and any special educational needs (SEN). We work closely with professionals, families and external agencies to ensure our support is holistic and impactful. We are proud of the caring, supportive and inclusive environment we provide, enhancing our learners’ quality of life and supporting them to realise their aspirations.
Ofsted (November 2025) commented:
“Pupils are fortunate to attend this school. Here, they mend their relationship with learning, forge trusting relationships with adults and feel valued.”
