Housekeeping Assistant - Day Time job summary
The Housekeeping Assistant will play a key role in ensuring that the school environment is clean, safe, and welcoming for pupils, staff, and visitors. This includes daily cleaning of classrooms, toilets, corridors, and communal areas to a high standard. Duties will involve vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets, dry and damp mopping of hard floors, damp dusting and polishing of furniture and fittings, and maintaining floor surfaces using electrical machines. The role also includes high and low-level dusting, cleaning of wall tiles and surfaces, and the safe removal of waste. The post holder will be responsible for the security and proper use of cleaning equipment and materials, working collaboratively within the cleaning team, and covering for absent colleagues when required. A proactive, hands-on approach is essential in maintaining a clean and hygienic school environment.

Main duties
Cleaning of toilets, urinals and showers.
Vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets.
Dry and damp mopping hard floors.
Damp dusting and polishing of furniture, fittings, ledges and radiators.
Floor maintenance using electrical floor machines.
High dusting of high-level ledges and walls.
Removal of waste to designated refuse collection area.
Dusting of low-level light fittings and shades.
Cleaning of wall tiles, removal of marks and stains on wall surfaces.
Security of equipment and materials.

Working together with cleaning team in your assigned areas.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
Completed or willingness to complete relevant training, including safeguarding and
Health & Safety. Experience
Experience in general cleaning duties within a school or similar environment.
Familiarity with maintaining cleaning schedules and ensuring compliance with school policies and procedures.
Skills and Knowledge
Good understanding of Health & Safety regulations - training will be provided.
Ability to plan and oversee a variety of cleaning tasks across the school site.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Confident in using cleaning equipment and materials safely.
Able to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all areas.
IT skills for logging tasks and communicating with staff via email.
