What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint a highly efficient and accurate HR Assistant with a positive attitude to work alongside the HR Manager and gain hands-on experience across various HR functions in a school environment. You’ll receive comprehensive training to develop the skills needed to succeed in a rewarding career in Human Resources. 

General Purpose of Job:

The HR Apprentice will provide general HR administration support at Rainhill High School and be expected to undertake a variety of administrative duties both independently and under supervision.

Work 

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience in areas of recruitment, employee relations, training and development, payroll, policies and procedures. 

Areas of support include;

  • Email monitoring and support 

  • Standard HR administration  

  • Policy and system review 

  • Recruitment and jobs inbox administration 

  • Pre employment and vetting checks in line with Safer Recruitment Policy 

  • Employee engagement support and onboarding process

  • References and medical clearance administration 

  • Sickness and absence administration 

  • Collating information required for payroll

  • Assisting with posting Job Adverts online 

  • Assisting with employment contracts, changes to terms and conditions, maternity,

resignation letters

  • Maintaining employee records (electronic and hard copies) and GDPR compliance

  • Assisting in maintaining Single Central Record

  • Liaising with recruitment agencies re temp to perm appointments 

  • Updating HR databases (e.g. new employees, holiday and sick leave)

  • Undertaking CPD to update knowledge, legislation and processes

  • Undertaking any other ad-hoc works as directed by the HR Manager

Training 

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

They gain knowledge of relevant HR legislation and the organisation's HR policies.

Apprentices understand the role and focus of HR within the organisation, including its business plan and priorities.  

  • HR Systems and Processes: 

They learn about the HR systems, tools, and processes used in their role, including data management and reporting.

  • Service Delivery: 

Apprentices develop excellent customer service skills to handle HR queries and provide advice to managers.  

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: 

They learn to communicate effectively with colleagues, managers, and employees.  

  • Managing HR Information: 

Apprentices learn to maintain HR records, prepare reports, and manage HR data.  

Practical Skills and Behaviours: 

  • Handling day-to-day HR queries. 

  • Providing HR advice and support to managers. 

  • Working with HR systems to maintain records and data. 

  • Providing information and support to employees on HR matters. 

  • Supporting HR projects and initiatives.

Essential qualifications 

Ability to meet the entry requirements of the Level 3 apprentice course attached to this apprenticeship and to attend and undertake the studying and course work required to complete the course.

Educated to at least GCSE standard in: 

  • English (grade A* - C / 9 - 4) 

  • Mathematics (grade A * - C / 9 - 4) 

  • 3 other subjects (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)
