What skills and experience we're looking for
Orchardside School is purpose-built pupil referral unit for 11–16-year-olds who have been permanently excluded or who are at risk of being excluded from mainstream education. We believe that all children, whatever their starting point, have the right to be heard, understood and to be hopeful of their future. We provide education for KS3 & KS4 students on a long- and short-term basis.
Our students need staff with excellent subject knowledge and a preference for working with hard to reach, vulnerable children. We need staff who will care about students’ progress, and teachers who are able to support them with their personal development and wellbeing through education. Humanities is a well-loved and valued subject which is a pivotal subject in our student’s school life.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the Orchardside vision and values. We are looking for someone who is an excellent secondary phase Humanities teacher to lead a department of one other colleague.
We need someone who
- Has excellent pastoral skills and empathy particularly in developing effective working relationships with students.
- Has a belief in our Trauma Informed approach.
- Can re-motivate and enthuse students who have had a negative experience with education.
- Is resilient with a sense of humour and sees everyday as a fresh start.
- Is a team player who is keen to make a real difference in students’ lives.
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
