What skills and experience we're looking for

Main Purpose of the Role

  • To support the inclusion and progress of pupils with additional needs, ensuring they have every opportunity to thrive and succeed
  • To provide targeted 1-1 support for various children throughout the day, both inside and outside the classroom
  • To work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Work 1-1 with identified children, supporting their learning, well-being and social development
  • Assist in delivering tailored interventions and adapting activities to meet individual needs
  • Support children in classroom activities, group work, and during transitions around the school
  • Help children to develop confidence, independence and positive relationships
  • Monitor pupil progress and share observations with teachers and relevant staff
  • Work with teachers to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
  • Provide support during unstructured times, such as break and lunch
  • Liaise effectively with staff, parents/carers, and outside agencies as required
  • Uphold the school’s policies, including safeguarding, inclusion and behaviour
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive and safe learning environment

Person Specification

Qualifications and training

  • Good standard of general education, including English and maths GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Relevant qualification or training in supporting children eg TA level 2 or 3
  • Willingness to undertake further training as required

Experience

  • Experience of working with primary-aged children, ideally in a school setting
  • Experience of supporting children with additional needs on a 1-1 basis (desirable)

Skills and knowledge

  • Understanding of child development and the barriers to learning some children may face
  • Ability to adapt support to meet individual needs
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Awareness of safeguarding procedures and the importance of confidentiality
