This is a key role within our pastoral and inclusion team, supporting a small number of students who struggle to engage with mainstream lessons. You’ll provide focused academic and emotional support, lead reintegration strategies, and work collaboratively with our SENDCO, staff, parents/carers, and external partners.

At Thornhill Academy, we are proud of our rich diversity, inclusive ethos, and strong community spirit. Our mission is simple – to provide every student, regardless of background, with the opportunity to succeed in life. As part of Consilium Academies, a trust driven by the values of Excellence, Equity, and Integrity, you’ll be joining a collaborative and supportive network of schools committed to staff development, pupil success, and high-quality education for all.

The Role: Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage an effective internal inclusion room for pupils temporarily withdrawn from lessons.
  • Provide targeted academic and emotional support to students.
  • Work with the SENDCO on personalised intervention plans under a 'plan-do-review' model.
  • Support re-engagement and reintegration into mainstream education.
  • Liaise closely with teaching staff, parents, carers, and external agencies.
  • Develop and deliver structured learning activities and behaviour support strategies.

About You: Person Specification

  • Experience working with pupils facing behavioural, social, or emotional challenges.
  • Ability to plan and deliver small group sessions.
  • Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in ICT and strong literacy/numeracy skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a similar school-based role or relevant transferable career experience.
  • Relevant professional development or career-based training.

We Offer:

  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • 34 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata)
  • Automatic pay progression within the grade
  • Enhanced sick pay
  • 36-hour working week for support staff
