The Department

Music at Uxbridge High School is about access and enjoyment for every student. Our Music Department sits within a busy Performing Arts Faculty alongside Drama and PE. It teaches students from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 through curriculum lessons, instrumental tuition, rehearsals and performances. Concerts, productions and enrichment events are a highlight of the school year, giving students the chance to perform, collaborate and build confidence. We want every young person, whatever their background or starting point, to have the opportunity to pick up an instrument and make music.

The Role

We are looking for a talented, organised musician to join us as Music Technician / Instrument Instructor. This varied role would suit someone with a peripatetic or instrumental teaching background who also enjoys the practical side of running a busy department.

You will deliver free beginner lessons to Key Stage 3 students on guitar, bass guitar, drums, piano/keyboard and voice, individually and in small groups, helping them build sound technique, confidence and good practice habits. You will also coach Key Stage 4 students as they prepare for performances, recordings and practical assessments.

Alongside your teaching, you will look after the department's instruments and equipment across Music, Drama and PE. That means routine maintenance, keeping the inventory up to date, and making sure everything is ready for lessons, rehearsals and events. You will play an active part in concerts and productions throughout the year.

You will need Grade 5 or above (or an equivalent proven standard) on at least one of these instruments and the confidence to teach beginners on several. Just as important is a positive, "can do" approach and a real enthusiasm for getting young people excited about music.

Please note that the school reserves the right to close this vacancy prior to the stated deadline should a sufficient number of applications be received. Early application is therefore strongly advised.
