Interim Deputy Head Teacher job summary
Parkside Community Primary School is a one-form entry school (with two classes in Year 5), proudly serving the Borehamwood community. We were rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in February 2020, and our most recent short inspection in March 2025 confirmed that we continue to maintain these high standards.
At Parkside, we are committed to building an inclusive and ambitious school where every child is valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their very best. Our motto, “Nurturing and inspiring young minds towards a bright future,” is at the heart of everything we do.
We are seeking to appoint an Interim Deputy Headteacher to join our dedicated leadership team from January 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and motivated leader to play a key role in supporting the Headteacher, driving school improvement, and ensuring the very best outcomes for our pupils. The successful candidate will be passionate about inclusive education, able to inspire colleagues, and committed to building on the school’s successes.
As Interim Deputy Headteacher, you will:
Provide strategic leadership alongside the Headteacher and senior leaders
Support staff in delivering high-quality teaching and learning
Champion safeguarding, pupil wellbeing, and inclusion
Contribute to the continued development of our vibrant and supportive school community
We are looking for an inspiring leader who shares our vision and values, and who will bring energy, expertise, and a collaborative approach to our school. You will be an experienced and effective leader with proven impact at senior or middle leadership level, a skilled communicator who can motivate, support, and challenge staff, and someone who is passionate about safeguarding, inclusion, and the wellbeing of every child.
This post will suit someone who is eager to make a significant contribution to the life of our school, while further developing their own leadership practice in a supportive and ambitious environment.
Why Join Parkside?A committed, friendly and hardworking team of staff and governors
A strong culture of collaboration and professional development
Opportunities to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our pupils and families
A school community that values wellbeing, inclusion and high expectations for all
Enthusiastic, caring children who are eager to learn and proud of their school
Please note: This is an interim position to provide leadership capacity during the long-term absence of a substantive Deputy Headteacher. The role will continue until their return, at which point the interim contract will end. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact within our school community during this period.
Next StepsWe are keen to make a successful appointment and may interview suitable candidates before the closing date. Early applications are therefore strongly encouraged.
Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged - we look forward to meeting you. To arrange a visit, please contact the school office at admin@parkside.herts.sch.uk
