Isolation Manager job summary

Reporting To: Assistant Headteacher (Behaviour, Ethos & Culture)

We are seeking a dedicated Isolation Manager to join our Pastoral team. We are looking for an organised individual who can coordinate internal isolations, providing work and resources for students to make progress whilst in the Isolation Room, and liaising with families, students and staff as necessary to facilitate students’ successful return to lessons. The role involves supervising the Isolation Room and ensuring students’ behaviour meets our high standards and expectations.

Our perfect candidate will be:

  • Experienced in behaviour management and de-escalation
  • Experienced in supervising groups of students
  • Able to work with and support families of students to help improve and develop engagement with school and education
  • Able to contribute to the wider pastoral team and work directly with students across the school to achieve the best possible outcomes for them
  • Equipped with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills

Core Purpose:

To coordinate the provision for students who need help in overcoming barriers to learning and developing their potential by raising standards of behaviour for learning. To liaise with Heads of Year and Pastoral Managers to provide short term provision in the Isolation Room for students identified as part of the whole school behaviour system.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Isolation Room provision
  • Organise and provide appropriate work and supervision to students and be responsible for them until an appropriate member of staff is available
  • Monitor the progress and behaviour of students utilising the Isolation, in line with the school’s behaviour systems
  • Provide information, reports and analysis on student behaviour
  • Maintain high standards and expectations in line with our school ethos and values and administer sanctions as appropriate
  • Ensure registers are updated and completed daily
  • Meet and greet identified students daily to set them up for a successful day
  • Communicate with Heads of Year and Pastoral Managers on relevant actions to be taken
  • Ensure attendance registers are up to date - follow up absence with Heads of Year and Pastoral Managers
  • Ensure all logs are kept up to date and school records reflect this
  • Link Isolation register with Inclusion pathway - ensure records are up to date and cases are followed up, including record keeping
  • Ensure the rota for staffing the Isolation Room is accurate and all periods of known and unknown staff absence are covered
  • Co-ordinate internal isolations liaising with families, staff and students. This will include the Assistant Headteacher (Behaviour, Ethos and Culture), Head of Year, SENDCO and Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
  • Hold a caseload of students for Mentoring
  • Contact families to inform them of individual students’ behaviour, consequences or exclusions as part of effective lines of communication between the school and home
  • Liaise and work with external agencies who work with specific students to ensure that the school is supporting and complementing this work
  • Know and understand identified student’s SEND needs and which strategies could be used to support the student and their behaviour
  • Maintain the Isolation Room to ensure it provides an appropriate environment for students
  • Be aware of, and comply with, policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
  • To carry out duties around the school at social times, engaging positively with students at these times

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist with on call duties as appropriate
  • Responsible for student behaviour and welfare in public places during break, lunch, change of lesson, beginning and end of school day as directed
  • Attend meetings as required
  • Assist with student needs as appropriate during the school day
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, willingness to develop additional skills and expertise
  • Keep up to date with current educational developments and legislation affecting your area of responsibility
  • Contribute to school development through identified communication and consultation channels
  • Treat students, parents and colleagues fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect
  • To respect the confidential nature of information relating to the school, students and customers
  • Be aware of and support differences and ensure equal opportunities for all
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
  • Develop constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals
  • Be aware of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and report any concerns in accordance with the school’s safeguarding policy
  • To comply with the school’s Health and Safety policy and statutory requirements
  • To undertake any other duties not detailed above commensurate with the level of the post.
