What skills and experience we're looking for

New Horizons Special School is a nurturing and inclusive specialist provision for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our mission is to re-engage young people with learning, raise aspirations and ensure every pupil achieves positive academic, social and emotional outcomes. We place relationships, wellbeing and personalised learning at the heart of everything we do, creating an environment where pupils feel safe, valued and able to succeed.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, resilient and inspirational General Studies Teacher to join our dedicated team. This is an exciting opportunity for a versatile and passionate practitioner to teach a broad General Studies curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping our pupils build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to succeed. The ability to teach Mathematics at KS3 and KS4 would be a real asset, and we would welcome applications from candidates who can offer this alongside other curriculum areas.

The role will involve delivering and supporting accredited courses, including GCSE, BTEC and alternative pathways. We are looking for someone who can motivate and engage vulnerable learners, create meaningful and well-planned learning experiences across a range of subjects, and prepare pupils for their next stages of education, employment and adulthood. An understanding of SEMH needs, trauma-informed practice or experience of working with pupils with EHCPs would also be welcome.

Experience of working with pupils with additional needs would be advantageous, but applications are welcomed from excellent teachers who are committed to inclusive education and passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people.
