What skills and experience we're looking for

The Key Stage 2 class teacher is responsible for planning, delivering and assessing high‑quality teaching and learning to pupils aged 7–11, in line with the National Curriculum. The role involves creating a positive, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that supports pupils’ academic progress, personal development and wellbeing.

Key duties include planning and teaching engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND, EAL, or high prior attainment; assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ progress using formative and summative assessment; and adapting teaching to ensure all pupils make good or better progress. The class teacher is responsible for maintaining high expectations for behaviour, applying the school’s behaviour policy consistently, and fostering a safe, respectful classroom climate.

The role includes promoting pupils’ social, emotional and moral development, supporting their independence and resilience, and preparing them for the transition to Key Stage 3. Class teachers work closely with teaching assistants and other professionals to support learning and wellbeing, and liaise effectively with parents and carers through meetings, reports and ongoing communication.

Additional responsibilities include contributing to whole‑school initiatives, participating in staff meetings and professional development, fulfilling safeguarding duties, and upholding the school’s policies and values at all times.
