Kitchen Manager job summary
Permanent Position, 32.5 hours per week
You will need to have an appreciation for the challenges of working in a busy kitchen and be willing to carry out a variety of roles, including responsibility for stock control, food and equipment ordering from suppliers, food preparation, storage of food stuff, washing up as well as other activities that may change on a day-to-day basis. Previous catering experience is preferable.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Managing the production of ‘safe’ food in a hygienic environment
- Ensuring all aspects of relevant, current legislation are complied with
- Direct management of and involvement in planning, production, cooking, cleaning, preparation of the dining room and service procedures
- The provision of special dietary requirements as necessary and ensuring the menu meets national nutritional standards
- Ensuring that the correct type and quality of food is cooked to standard for all appropriate serving times, having due regard to quantity, temperature control, portion control and economic use of resources
- Being responsible for receiving deliveries and ensuring the safe hygienic storage in the facilities provided, ensuring stock rotation and stock control
- To set up food service trolleys and counters and serve food to the pupils and staff
Ideally, you will:
- Have previous experience in a similar role in a school or commercial environment
- Be able to build good relationships with children and staff and be a friendly and positive presence in our school
- Be willing to work as part of a team and have a good sense of humour
- Be able to use your own initiative when required
- Be able to work under pressure with tight deadlines
