KS1 Class Teacher job summary
West Ashton Church of England (V.A.) Primary School is seeking a dedicated and ambitious Class Teacher to join our friendly team from November 2026, teaching our mixed-age Year 1 and Year 2 class. This is an exciting opportunity for an ECT or an experienced teacher who shares our commitment to excellent teaching, nurturing relationships and the highest expectations for every child.
Located in the beautiful village of West Ashton, just outside Trowbridge, Wiltshire, we educate children aged 3–11. Our Christian vision, “You are the light of the world. Let your light shine,” underpins everything we do. Our SHINE values—Serve, Hope, Include, Navigate and Endeavour—guide how we learn, build relationships and contribute to our community. We want every child to feel valued, discover their strengths and develop a lifelong love of learning.
We have the highest expectations of learning, behaviour and participation. We are looking for a teacher who establishes clear routines, delivers engaging and carefully structured lessons and ensures that every child is supported and challenged to achieve their best. Alongside this, we use the Thrive approach to support children’s social and emotional development. Warm, trusting relationships and an understanding of children’s needs work hand in hand with consistent expectations, helping children develop the confidence and readiness to learn and succeed.
In November 2023, Ofsted judged the school Good in all areas, recognising our inclusive community, respectful relationships and pupils’ positive attitudes to learning. As part of Acorn Education Trust, we benefit from shared expertise, collaboration and professional development. We offer a welcoming team and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a school where every child and adult is encouraged to let their light shine.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is committed to becoming a truly excellent teacher;
- Can teach a broad range of engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire and improve student attainment;
- Can plan and deliver lessons and sequences of lessons to the highest standard that ensure real learning takes place and students make superior progress;
- Is able to raise attainment and challenge students to achieve their best;
- Has a commitment to extra-curricular activities;
- Has good knowledge and awareness of current initiatives in the Primary / KS1 Curriculum;
- Is an effective team member who can contribute positively to our team and across the wider school community;
- Has a positive, cheerful outlook with a good sense of humour;
- is able to forge good relationships with students and staff;
- Is able to work hard and remain calm under pressure;
- Has a desire to work within the Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) structure.
We can offer the successful candidate:
- An ambitious and vibrant place to work, with enthusiastic children and staff who are passionate about learning;
- A workplace where everyone feels valued and supported;
- Opportunities for training and progression;
- The support of Acorn Education Trust, with excellent opportunities to work with experienced colleagues;
- A supportive and clearly defined induction procedure.
