What skills and experience we're looking for
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic teacher to join our successful junior school in September in the role of class teacher.
We are a large church school with four classes per year group, providing an ideal context to support professional development at any stage of a teacher’s career. This is a Main Pay Range vacancy and the post is suitable for experienced or early career teachers.
We are looking for a primary specialist who:
- Is, or aspires to be, an excellent practitioner who secures good pupil progress for the children in their care
- Provides effective and innovative learning opportunities to engage all children in their care
- Deploys a range of positive behaviour management strategies seeking to build mutually respectful relationships within their class
- Demonstrates high expectations of children, self and other adults seeking to enhance their potential
- Has an approachable and caring manner
- Would be supportive of our Christian ethos
What the school offers its staff
As a school, we are extremely proud of our successes in setting high expectations and developing the whole child through our strong Christian ethos. Our dedicated staff work together as a strong team enabling both children and staff to flourish.
At Horndean Church of England Junior School we strive to provide each and every one of the five hundred children in our care with a first-class education. We are an inclusive school and we prioritise adapting teaching and learning to meet the needs of all our learners.
Due to the size of our school, we have four Senior Leaders – Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion and Assistant Headteacher for Curriculum – who lead both strategically and operationally. Our Senior Leaders work very closely with our four Year Leaders to plan, implement and evaluate our school improvement work, celebrating successes and sharing good practice across our school. Our weekly Teacher Meetings provide opportunities for professional development and weekly Year Team meetings, as well as year team PPA time, provide opportunities for the four teachers in each year team to work collaboratively to secure high quality provision for the children in our care.
We are extremely proud of our successes and the effectiveness of our school improvement work over time has been recognised by the Local Authority. In April 2022 we secured a very positive outcome from our short Ofsted inspection, not least the judgement that our Christian Values of TLC ‘help to make the school a very special place.’ This echoed the outcome of our church school inspection in November 2019 that our Christian vision ‘successfully drives the school’s development and has an exceptional impact on the lives of pupils and adults.’
We are particularly excited to be working with the DfE on a School Rebuilding Programme. Our existing school building will be replaced next year with a wonderful new building which will include enhanced facilities and resources, particularly relating to IT. We would therefore welcome applications from new or experienced teachers who enjoy using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
