Marksbury Primary School is a thriving village school. We aim to give our children a breadth of experiences to prepare them for their next step. We offer a wide variety of additional learning experiences in school time and many extra-curricular activities after school.

Please look at our school website to get a flavour of what is happening this year. www.marksbury.bathnes.sch.uk

Marksbury is a rural school, built in 1873 to serve the local community. The school is situated just off the A39 Bath to Wells road with easy access to Bath (5 miles) and Bristol.

The original 1873 building has been modernised and extended. Within the school site there is a play area with playground equipment and a peace garden. The school has a hall with gymnastic equipment, and an off-site playing field. All the children attend Keynsham Leisure Centre for weekly swimming lessons, with the help of voluntary contributions from parents.

There will be 88 children on roll in 4 classes. The school is very popular, with children coming from a wide area and varied social and economic backgrounds. Many children come to school by home-to-school transport, which is provided by the local authority. The school enjoys very close links with the local community, including the church and also involves itself in joint events with other schools. We are currently going through the process of becoming an academy and will be joining The Partnership Trust. We hope that the person appointed would be prepared to help us foster these links.

The school has 4 full time teachers and 5 teaching assistants plus the Head teacher. All teaching staff have responsibility for one or more curriculum areas and are supported by their colleagues. There is also a school administrator, a caretaker and two lunchtime play leaders, in addition to the teaching staff.

The school aims to provide a friendly, caring environment with high expectations of academic achievement and pupil behaviour, in which each child is encouraged to develop his or her talents and abilities to the full. The atmosphere is that of an extended family. We believe that the process of education should be a partnership that involves children, teachers, parents and other adults. Parents are always very welcome in school, and many assist in the classrooms, and participate in extra-curricular events.

There is a very supportive PTA. School staff attend regular meetings and are present at all events.

A system of positive behaviour management and associated rewards for children is used, so there is a calm and purposeful atmosphere in the school. The commitment of all staff to whole school discipline ensures that the system is always effective. The staff seek to create a learning environment, which will stimulate children, but also has a caring ethos. Children and all adults within the school are valued and respected.

The governors of the school are very supportive of the school, and provide a wealth of experience from their varying backgrounds.

We underwent a very successful OFSTED inspection in December 2012, details of which are available via a link on our school website. We also achieved an ‘Outstanding’ judgement following our SIAMs inspection in 2018.

Finally, thank you for showing an interest in our school. Visits are very welcome by appointment. Please phone to arrange a time.
