What skills and experience we're looking for

Are you an excellent teacher looking for your next opportunity?

At Fairford C of E Primary School, we are looking for an exceptional KS2 teacher who shares our ambition to provide children with the very best education.

This is more than a class teacher vacancy. It is an opportunity to join an Outstanding school (Ofsted November 2024), work alongside an experienced and supportive team and take an important leadership role in shaping English across our school.

Our most recent Ofsted inspection in November 2024 confirmed that Fairford had maintained the standards identified at its previous Outstanding inspection .Fairford was described as a “remarkable school” and recognised the strong sense of belonging experienced by our pupils.

We are immensely proud of our school, but we are also ambitious about what comes next. We are looking for a teacher who will bring expertise, enthusiasm and ideas and who wants to contribute to the next stage of Fairford’s development.

Why Fairford?

There is a very special culture at Fairford. Our November 2024 Ofsted inspection recognised a school in which pupils are proud to belong, behaviour is excellent and children work exceptionally hard.

Inspectors identified a palpable love of learning across the school and recognised that pupils’ knowledge develops exceptionally well. Our curriculum is highly ambitious, carefully planned from Nursery through to Year 6 and supported by professional development that enables teachers to deliver it with expertise.

Reading and language are particularly important to us. Children are immersed in a language-rich environment from Nursery onwards, vocabulary development is prioritised and pupils understand and celebrate the value of reading.

We have been recognised for the strength of our inclusive practice. Pupils who need additional support receive it quickly, and pupils with SEND flourish alongside their peers.

Education at Fairford is about much more than academic outcomes. Our children are encouraged to become articulate, confident and thoughtful young people. They take on leadership roles, participate in debates and mock trials, enjoy a wide range of clubs and enrichment opportunities and learn to contribute to their wider community.

What can we offer you?

We believe that if we want the very best for our children, we must also invest in the people who teach them.

  • Wonderful children who are enthusiastic, hardworking and proud of their school.
  • The opportunity to join an Outstanding school that successfully maintained its high standards at its November 2024 Ofsted inspection.
  • An experienced, highly skilled and supportive staff team.
  • A culture in which professional development matters; We have been recognised the bespoke training available to staff.
  • Three additional wellbeing days every year, in addition to school holidays.
  • Meaningful professional flexibility: your combined PPA and subject leadership day can be worked from home each week.
  • Protected time to lead English effectively, with an expectation that you work this day in school at least twice each term to support subject development.
  • A culture of professional trust and autonomy in which excellent teachers are valued as professionals.
  • Opportunities to complete National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) through available apprenticeship funding routes, subject to eligibility and funding requirements.
  • A wonderful school environment, with exciting opportunities to develop outdoor learning and make purposeful use of our outdoor spaces.
  • Senior leaders who value staff wellbeing, professional dialogue, innovation and continuous improvement.

Most importantly, you will join a school that wants excellent teachers to stay, develop, lead and flourish.

The opportunity to lead English

Alongside being an excellent KS2 classroom teacher, you will provide strategic leadership for English across Fairford. You will be building upon strong foundations.

At our most recent inspection it was recognised that priority is given to vocabulary development in the language-rich environment experienced by children from Nursery onwards. Inspectors also recognised that pupils understand the value of reading and that children who find reading more difficult receive support quickly.

We want our next English Subject Leader to build on these strengths while bringing their own expertise, ambition and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • shape the future direction of English across our school;
  • champion excellent children’s literature and foster a genuine culture of reading;
  • continue developing high-quality teaching of reading and writing;
  • support and inspire colleagues through professional dialogue, coaching and development;
  • evaluate the quality and impact of the English curriculum;
  • use assessment and evidence intelligently to identify strengths and priorities;
  • ensure English is ambitious and accessible for all pupils;
  • explore innovative approaches to curriculum development;
  • celebrate children’s achievements in reading, writing, speaking and listening; and
  • work closely with senior leaders as part of the school’s continuing development.

Importantly, you will have dedicated subject leadership time to enable you to lead with impact.

Who are we looking for?

Above all, we are looking for an excellent teacher. Someone who knows what great primary teaching looks like and combines high expectations with warmth, creativity and strong relationships.

  • hold Qualified Teacher Status;
  • create a sense of belonging for every child with excellent relational and Trauma informed practice
  • Uphold the school’s Christian values
  • be an accomplished KS2 classroom practitioner with high expectations for every pupil;
  • have excellent curriculum and pedagogical knowledge;
  • understand how to secure strong progress while ensuring children enjoy learning;
  • have strong knowledge of primary English and a passion for reading, writing and children’s literature;
  • understand how to adapt teaching effectively so that all children can succeed;
  • use assessment purposefully and be reflective and interested in evidence-informed practice;
  • enjoy working collaboratively and have the confidence to support and influence colleagues;
  • be ambitious for yourself as well as for our children; and
  • share our unwavering commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s welfare.

Previous leadership experience would be valuable, but we are equally interested in an outstanding practitioner who demonstrates the potential, credibility and ambition to become an excellent subject leader.
