What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking for a qualified, experienced teacher to join Harris Academy Sutton as Key Stage Coordinator of Science. Joining our Director of Learning, you will be responsiblefor student progress and development in the subject area across a specified key stage including meeting student achievement targets for the key stage.

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree.

  • Have successful teaching experience at secondary level, ideally including experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and/or in an 11-18 school.
  • Understand the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
  • Have of National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4, particularly in the relevant key stage.
  • Understand the importance of having high expectations for all students, both of behaviour and academic achievement. Understand inclusive provision and practices which offer equality of access to the curriculum for all students, including SEN, EAL and high achievers.

  • Have knowledge and experience of writing lesson plans, developing resources and assessing students work.
  • Understand the importance of being a Tutor.

Further details about the role

The purpose of your role will be:

  • To be accountable, alongside the Director of Learning, for student progress and development in the subject area across a specified key stage including meeting student achievement targets for the key stage which are agreed by the Line Manager.
  • To ensure that the relevant curriculum for the key stage is varied and personalised, with a rich range of extra-curricular opportunities and activities to supplement the timetabled sessions.
  • To ensure there are high standards of teaching and learning across the key stage in the relevant subject through continuously, developing and enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.
  • To ensure, alongside the Director of Learning, the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students in the key stage, in accordance with the Academy aims and policies, as determined by the Line Manager, including planning and implementation of any changes to the specification.
  • To ensure that all Academy policies and procedures are implemented and applied consistently by all staff in the subject in the relevant key stage
  • To actively support the development of literacy, through the WORD strategy, within the subject area, to raise the standards of Literacy across the Academy.
  • To mentor and coach an NQT or TF colleague to ensure successful achievement of QTS/NQT status

Your main areas of responsibility will fall under the areas of:

  • Operational and strategic planning (including contributing to the subject and faculty improvement plans, and assisting in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies, assessment and teaching strategies)
  • Ensuring the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective curriculum and leading development of the subject and its delivery in the key stage
  • Student outcomes (including assisting the director in ensuring the effective operation of target setting, monitoring and evaluation systems and the input and maintenance of accurate student data in the key stage)
  • Pastoral system (including being a form tutor to a selected group of students)
  • Teaching, including acting as an outstanding role model
