Key Tasks

- To work collaboratively and flexibly to ensure: effective planning, successful learning, better than expected progress and accurate and moderated assessment outcomes.
- To manage the learning environment, resources and time to ensure effective learning takes place.
- To monitor and celebrate children’s learning, progress and achievement and record and report upon progress, including details on attendance, behaviour, development and additional needs.
- To be able to set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for pupils’ learning.
- To have a detailed professional knowledge of the curriculum including an understanding of the progression of learning and development and national testing.
- To accurately assess children’s development and to help create a successful framework for assessment.
- To work effectively with TAs and other colleagues who support children in their learning and beyond.
- To maintain a positive attitude, seeking to bring out the best in learners and having high expectations for all.
- To establish positive relationships with parents/carers, ensuring parental involvement in learning and progress
- To constantly strive to improve own performance and identify areas for self - improvement, attending appropriate training.
- To keep own CPD record up to date.
- To undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the line manager and commensurate with the post.
Specific to KS4 Lead for Science (in addition to your responsibilities as a teacher)
Specific to Role
- Support the Head of Department in taking responsibility for the overall performance in KS4.
- Implement a KS4 curriculum that excites students about science, that goes beyond the National Curriculum requirements, is purposeful for achieving excellent outcomes and is relevant to the MCA community.
- Develop and use effective formative and summative assessments that support future learning and provide meaningful data.
- Support the CEIAG agenda to develop a knowledge, understanding and interest in pathways and careers linked to study in science.
- Create a rich and exciting extended schools offer to further student engagement in science and prepare students for further study.
- Contribute to evaluating the progress made in achieving subject targets and evaluate the impact of teaching and learning.
- Scrutinise data to identify underperformance and lead on strategies to address any issues arising.
- Provide guidance on appropriate teaching and learning methods, and coaching relating to the successful delivery of these methods.
- Support effective coaching and mentoring of all staff for science.
- Quality assure provision and monitor standards of learning, teaching and engagement across science.
- Demonstrate consistently high standards in your own practice.
- Undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the line manager and commensurate with the post.
Raising and maintaining standards
- Secure academic outcomes in line with the targets set through the academy’s target setting policy.
- Monitor and manage a KS4 curriculum that ensures coherence and progression in the teaching of key subject knowledge, skills, understanding and concepts.
- Support the assessment process in the subject ensuring accurate measurement of subject standards in all year groups at all summative assessment points.
- Review and refine the curriculum, planning, teaching and assessment in the KS4 Science.
- Manage parent review processes in KS4 and ensure communication to parents regarding student performance is understood, accurate and insightful.
- Support innovative ways of sharing best practice.
Teaching & Learning
- As an outstanding classroom practitioner, to model excellence in the classroom and beyond, providing effective support to groups of learners.
- Teach engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire so students enjoy and achieve
- Ensure that technology is used effectively to support learning.
- Maintain accurate pupil data that can be used to make teaching more effective.
- Ensure a high-quality learning experience for all students.
