Lay Chaplain job summary

We are looking for an energetic and committed Lay Chaplain to lead and enrich the Catholic life of our schools. Reporting directly to our Headteachers and working in partnership with the Trust, you will help create vibrant faith communities where students, staff, and families can flourish spiritually.

Through collective worship, pastoral support, and faith formation, you will play a key role in nurturing Catholic values, inspiring meaningful encounters with faith, and embedding our shared mission across each school community.

You will work across nine Catholic primary schools in the Glossop/ Buxton area.

  • St Mary's, Glossop - Gladstone Street, Glossop, SK13 8NE

  • St Philip Howard -Sunlaws Street, Glossop, SK13 8DR
  • St Anne's Buxton - Lightwood Road, Buxton, SK17 7AB
  • St Mary's Marple Bridge - Lowry Drive, Marple Bridge, SK6 5BR
  • St Mary's New Mills - Longlands Road, New Mills, High Peak, SK22 3BL

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading prayer, worship, liturgies, and other faith-based activities.
  • Providing pastoral care and spiritual guidance.
  • Supporting and enhancing the Religious Education curriculum.
  • Working closely with headteachers to develop the Catholic Life and mission of each school.
  • Organising liturgical celebrations and spiritual events.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a practising Catholic (reserved post).
  • Strong understanding of Catholic teaching, liturgy, and traditions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to inspire children, staff, and families.
  • Strong organisational skills and a collaborative approach.
