About us
EBN Academy is an Alternative Provision Free School in Yardley, Birmingham, and part of EBN Academy Trust. We serve students aged 13-16 for whom mainstream school has not met their individual needs. Students are referred to us for a wide range of reasons, including disengagement from mainstream education, additional needs not being fully met by mainstream school, a lack of suitable places locally, and issues around peer relationships and attendance. Our ambition for every young person is to help them achieve the best possible academic, personal, social and aspirational outcomes. We are committed to inclusion, removing barriers to progress and the highest standards in teaching and learning.
EBN Academy Trust is part of the East Birmingham Partnership of Secondary Schools and Academies, which works together on behaviour, attendance and post-16 provision. Places are commissioned by schools across Birmingham, Solihull and further afield.
The role
Are you looking for a role where you can make a real difference? We are looking for a Lead Learning Mentor to lead our mentoring programme and work with young people who face barriers to learning, helping them to improve their aspiration, attendance and behaviour. You will work closely with the Head Teacher, Pastoral Manager and class teachers, and act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. You will need to be confident, resilient and be able to build strong relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries and expectations as we are looking for a positive role model for our students.
Job role - key elements
Leading and overseeing the mentoring programme, keeping mentoring lists up to date and making sure all mentoring appointments take place
Overseeing the induction of all new students
Mentoring students with challenging behaviour, using restorative and de-escalation approaches
Providing academic, pastoral and learning support as a Personal Coach and learning mentor
Supporting students in lessons and around the Academy where pastoral intervention is required
Acting as Deputy DSL, supporting the DSL and Head Teacher with safeguarding
Tracking the impact of mentoring and behaviour interventions
Leading activities and group sessions to promote engagement, and taking part in whole-school activities
Ideally, you will
Have experience of working with challenging behaviour
Have experience of coordinating a programme, caseload or group of staff
Understand safeguarding and be ready to take on Deputy DSL responsibilities
Have experience of the Key Stage 3 and 4 curriculum
Be dedicated to making a difference and able to support young people to make the right choices
