What skills and experience we're looking for

At New Wave Federation, we are seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Practitioner for SEND to champion inclusive practice across our schools. The successful candidate will have a strong background in SEND provision, a deep understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and a commitment to ensuring every pupil reaches their full potential.

You will take a leading role in shaping SEND provision, supporting colleagues with professional development and working closely with families and external agencies. If you are a committed practitioner with the skills and vision to make a lasting impact, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) A proven record of outstanding teaching, ideally across multiple primary key stages.

  • Substantial SEND Experience Demonstrated success in working with pupils with a range of SEND needs, including those with EHCPs, autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

  • Leadership and Management Experience Previous experience as a SENDCo, Assistant SENDCo, or in a leadership role focused on SEND provision.

  • Thorough Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice Up-to-date understanding of current legislation, statutory guidance, and procedures relating to SEND.

  • Assessment and Monitoring Skills Ability to assess individual needs, plan and implement effective interventions, and monitor progress using data and evidence-based methods.

  • Experience of Multi-agency Working Ability to collaborate effectively with parents and carers, local authority teams, and external support services.

  • Staff Development and Support Experience of coaching and mentoring colleagues, and delivering training to improve inclusive classroom practice.

Desirable Attributes

  • Holds or is working towards the NASENCo qualification.

  • Skilled in developing inclusive teaching strategies and differentiated learning approaches.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • A passionate advocate for inclusive education and high expectations for all pupils.

  • Able to contribute strategically to whole-school improvement and SEND policy development.
