You will be joining an innovative and constantly improving science department which has student achievement and progress at the centre of all it does.

What the school offers its staff

This is an exciting opportunity to join our school in beautiful West Cornwall, committed to ensuring the highest quality of education for all our students. Ofsted (Inspection May 2023) judged the school as ‘good’ and stated, “The relationships between adults and pupils are a strength. As a result, pupils have positive attitudes towards school. Pupils respect their school environment. Many speak with confidence and enthusiasm about their experiences at school and their plans for the future”.

What the school offers its staff

A school with a genuine family atmosphere.

  • The successful candidate can be assured of our full support in pursuit of their career goals. The development of staff is fundamental to raising standards and our high-quality programme of whole school professional development is supplemented with input from our highly experienced and successful team.
  • The full range of staff well-being and support can be found in our policy available on the school website, but includes:

o Access to Health and Wellbeing support through the ‘Schools Advisory Service’ including 24-hour GP access, Physiotherapy, some private Medical operations, Counselling & Mindfulness and Staff wellbeing clinics.

o Termly wellbeing events where staff can learn a new craft, socialize and generally ‘have fun’ as a community!

o Flexible working options in pursuit of a work/life balance

o An ‘open door’ policy to ensure staff are able to easily seek advice, share thoughts and help us develop our policy and practice.

  • Access to the Cornwall Council ‘One and All Employee Benefits’ including ‘Techscheme’, Cycle to Work scheme, Discounted memberships and 'on-line’ and ‘in-store’ discounts including major high street stores.

Further details about the role

The Lead Science Technician will purchase resources, ensure their availability to staff, and lead in the preparation of materials for classes, setting up practicals and supporting lessons. It is expected that successful applicants will be proactive, self-directing and able to work under their own initiative, as well as having sound ICT skills. You will be required to achieve complete familiarity with the Science Department’s health and safety procedures and will be responsible for keeping up to date with any changes to these procedures in order to produce risk assessments for the department.

As a school that values staff and their development, there will also be an opportunity to be involved in the varied extra-curricular activities that we provide for students, such as our many STEM initiatives and Science experiences.
