LEAD SUBJECT TEACHER OF GEOGRAPHY job summary
Are you an enthusiastic, committed, qualified Geography Teacher? Do you want the challenge of leading a department? Are you an excellent classroom practitioner, creative & challenging, passionate & committed, who can maximise pupil potential?
We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner who is both creative and challenging in their teaching. They will be passionate and committed to ensuring students maximise their potential and achievement. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach across our whole 11-16 age range and ability range and shape the future of the subject within the school.
The Department of two full time teachers will be led by the successful applicant. The post is vacant due to the planned retirement of the current post holder. The second teacher of geography completed their NQT with us and is now an RQT.
Pupils are well supported through our Pastoral House Continent system with year group tutoring supported by Continent Leaders. This provides the support pupils need to perform well across the curriculum as well as healthy competition throughout the year.
We have an active extra-curricular programme and run a number of annual residential trips both here and abroad. Close links with the local Rotary Club provide access to bespoke programmes, community work and charitable activities. Large numbers of pupils complete their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
We currently offer a GCSE in Geography at KS4 and this is a popular option within our curriculum. Pupils have 3 hours per week in both Years 10 and 11. At KS3 all pupils cover a range of the National Curriculum. Experiential learning has been a feature of our curriculum with fieldwork, trips and visits taking place right from Year 7 with an annual assent to the top of Pendle Hill. Trips to local rivers, streams and towns take place to study both physical and human geography in action. The department has teamed together with the Travel and Tourism teacher for an annual visit to Holland, to mention some of their curriculum enrichment.
We have a 3 year KS3 and 2 year KS4 offering EBacc, should pupils choose to do so.

Welcome to Rhyddings Business & Enterprise School, which serves the East Lancashire old mill town of Oswaldtwistle and surrounding area of Hyndburn. It has been at the heart of the community for over 85 years and although a smaller than average high school we cater for pupils from a diverse range of backgrounds. The school enjoys good transport links via the M65 corridor and adjoining networks of M6 and M66.
The school is in a period of transition, quite literally with a planned capital building programme. Uniquely, whilst this is taking place the school has been temporarily off-site for the academic years 2019-2021, to allow for demolition and construction work. Therefore, we are currently based at Hameldon College, Coal Clough Lane, Burnley for this academic year but return to Oswaldtwistle in September 2021.
