Lead TA: Nest Room Lead job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced teaching assistant to be a lead TA with day -to-day

responsibility for ‘the nest’. The nest is one of the rooms in our inclusion base. We operate an

informal room, a semi formal room and one which sits between the two. The nest is our least formal

set up, where pupils are working on the engagement model to develop their foundational

knowledge and communication skills. Most of the children in the nest have a diagnosis of autism and

are developing their early language skills.

In this role, you will be a consistent figure in the nest, managing the room, delivering sessions and

developing the provision, under the guidance of our inclusion base lead teacher.

Who are we?

Manchester Communication Primary Academy is an inclusive 2 form entry primary school in

Harpurhey.

We value the principles of nurture and see behaviour as a form of communication.

The school has a vibrant and inclusive environment; parents are well engaged, staff and children

enjoy working and learning at the school.

Our inclusion base has developed over the last year or so to meet the needs of our pupils in

mainstream, we have seen children make incredible progress due to the love and care they have

been given.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for colleagues who will be able to support our children to achieve their best, by

nurturing them. You’ll have great ideas about the environment, provision and sessions, and will work

closely with the teacher to plan and deliver them.

You will need to see behaviour as a form of communication, and understand that for some of the

children you are working with, it is an indicator of more support being needed. Where children have

barriers to verbal communication, they will communicate in other ways.

We are particularly interested to hear from colleagues with experience in the early years, and/or

specialist settings.

When does the role start?

The start-date for the role is as soon as you can start, once all of our safer recruitment processes

have been followed.

If I’m still interested, what should I do next?

We think that applying for a new role should always be seen as a 2-way process, you have to be right

for us, but the school also has to be right for you. So if you are interested in applying, please do feel

free to get in touch, come for a look around, or have a chat about the role.

Manchester Communication Primary Academy opened its doors in September 2014 to a small cohort of EYFS/Y1 children, since then it has grown by a 2-form year group each year and is a ‘good’, full school.

The school has a vibrant and inclusive environment; parents are well engaged, staff and children enjoy working and learning at the school. Teachers at the school are well supported; We use ‘Maths No Problem’, ‘Read Write Inc’ and ‘Talk for Writing’ approaches to support our teaching in being the best it can be. Teachers are however encouraged to develop their own individual styles.
