What skills and experience we're looking for
- Lead and review the curriculum design of Psychology, including planning and assessment resources
- Contribute to the CPD of other colleagues within the wider Social Sciences department
- Monitor student progress and performance within Psychology and provide intervention
- A resilient disposition to cope with the demands of exam class teaching and managing assessment deadlines
- Commitment to upholding the school ethos including; spiritual life, use of authority and maintaining discipline
- Demands ambitious standards for all students; belief in the potential of everyone to learn and develop
- Values all children equally
- Values research and an evidenced based approach to teaching
- Conducts oneself with humour, diplomacy and integrity
- Willingness to contribute to extra-curricular activities
- QTS or equivalent (applicant may be working towards this)
- Good degree in relevant discipline
- Good knowledge and understanding of pedagogy
- Strong subject knowledge
- Understands the core features of successful lesson planning and SOL development
- Excellent classroom teacher who can lead by example
- Ability to make accurate and productive use of assessment
- Understands how to promote high standards of literacy and numeracy as appropriate to the subject
- Ability to secure the highest standards for all students
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise own work to meet deadlines and ensure most effective use of time
- Ability to reflect on own practice, critically evaluate and plan strategically for improvement
- Experience of securing effective professional development for oneself

- Provide trainee mentoring programmes for those moving in to new positions for example middle and senior leadership

This role is central to shaping a dynamic and inspiring learning environment where psychological thinking is nurtured and celebrated.
About the Role
As Lead Teacher of Psychology, you will take responsibility for leading and developing the Psychology curriculum, as well as make a positive contribution to the wider Social Sciences department. You will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a deep enthusiasm for the subject, able to inspire students to explore the world through a psychological lens and foster their curiosity and critical thinking.
Working closely with colleagues in the Social Sciences department, you will monitor student progress, support academic achievement, and contribute to a culture of high expectations and inclusive learning. Your leadership will help ensure that Psychology continues to thrive as a subject that challenges, engages, and empowers our learners.
