We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and exceptional individual to be the Lead Teacher of SEND for the new Specialist Provision at The Gatehouse (based at Waltham Toll Bar Academy).
Toll Bar’s ‘Gatehouse’ opening in January will cater for up to 12 children from across North East Lincolnshire who have identified Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Children in our Care who have difficulties accessing mainstream education.
The Lead Teacher will work closely with a team of up to five support staff and will play a key role, alongside the SENDCO, in collaborating with staff across the academy and colleagues in the Trust, local authority and external agencies to ensure a broad, balanced and specialist curriculum is provided for our children accessing the provision.
We are looking for an experienced classroom teacher who demonstrates a strong desire to ensure children, who have often had negative experiences of education, are able to develop their skills and confidence, using adaptive, personalised teaching strategies.
It is crucial that the Lead Teacher creates a nurturing and empathic approach to teaching, prioritising child-centred relational approaches.
The successful candidate will hold ambitious expectations for all students with additional and special educational needs and disabilities and embed a culture where all can access the curriculum and learn effectively.
Lincolnshire Gateway Academy Trust are already working closely with Trauma Informed Schools UK to support the development of our vision, values and curriculum. It is essential the successful candidate champions our principles of trauma awareness and relational learning, building strong, trusting relationships with our children to create a safe learning environment.
An ability to be creative and adaptable in your teaching is crucial. Experience of teaching across key stages (KS2 - KS3) is desirable and a deep knowledge of the core and wider curriculum is essential.
Experience of working with children with additional needs, including those with SEMH, is vital and the candidate must have good knowledge and a practical understanding of the SEND Code of Practice.
The Lead Teacher in SEND will have significant impact upon the lives and opportunities experienced by the young people of Waltham and across North East Lincolnshire.
The successful candidate will work alongside the Executive Principal, Vice Principal for Inclusion, SENDCO, staff team and supportive Trust, shaping the direction of travel of the new Gatehouse Provision.
During the first year, the Gatehouse will offer 6 places and will increase up to 12 places to maximum capacity by the end of the first year.
Our ethos is one of an uncompromising drive to achieve the highest standards of outcomes and behaviour in a safe environment, which encourages every student to experience an exciting and creative climate for learning.
We place a strong emphasis upon pastoral care and teachers will share the determination to offer the very best to our students so that they can thrive personally and academically.
Applications should be submitted by 12pm on Friday 10 October 2025.
Candidates will be selected for interview and contacted by Monday 13 October 2025.
Interviews will take place w/b Monday 13 October 2025.
Please contact the Vice Principal and Head of Inclusion, Miss Nicola Law, for further details about the role on - enquiries@tollbaracademy.co.uk.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. As part of this process, all successful applicants are required to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure. Other checks including social media will be carried out in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation.
