Lead Teacher - Primary Alternative Provision job summary

Lead an Innovative New Primary Alternative Provision

North Star Academy Trust is seeking an exceptional teacher and leader to establish and lead an exciting new Primary Alternative Provision in Bath and North East Somerset.

Working in partnership with Bath & North East Somerset Council, you will play a pivotal role in developing a specialist SEMH and inclusion provision designed to prevent exclusion, improve outcomes and support vulnerable children to successfully re-engage with education.

This is a unique opportunity to shape a service from its inception and make a lasting difference to the lives of children who face significant barriers to learning.

The provision will be based at Beckford Drive, Lansdown, Bath, BA1 9AU in the school building which was previously Abbot Alphege Academy.

About the Provision

The provision will support up to 10 primary-aged pupils at any one time, including:

  • Preventative placements for pupils at risk of exclusion.
  • Day 6 and permanently excluded pupils.
  • Short-term intervention programmes.
  • Reintegration support back into mainstream education.
  • Close partnership working with schools, families and external agencies.

The curriculum combines:

  • High-quality teaching in English, mathematics, reading, phonics and science.
  • Project-based and thematic learning.
  • Personal development and life skills.
  • SEMH interventions and therapeutic approaches.
  • Speech, language and communication support.
  • Bespoke assessment and diagnostic pathways.

The provision will operate alongside a wider outreach model, enabling support to be delivered both within the resource base and directly into schools across the local area.

About the Role

As Resource Base Lead Teacher, you will:

  • Establish and lead this new specialist provision and oversee the outreach team with the support of the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Deliver outstanding teaching and learning tailored to individual needs.
  • Develop personalised learning pathways and intervention programmes.
  • Create a culture of high expectations, inclusion and achievement.
  • Lead assessment, progress tracking and reintegration planning.
  • Work closely with mainstream schools, families, local authority teams and multi-agency partners.
  • Support pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Promote positive behaviour, resilience and emotional regulation.
  • Champion inclusion across the Trust and wider local authority area.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations for every child.
  • Has completed their ECT Induction.
  • Has experience working with pupils with SEND, SEMH and additional needs.
  • Understands trauma-informed and relational approaches to behaviour.
  • Has experience of alternative provision, inclusion or specialist settings.
  • Can build positive relationships with children, families and professionals.
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for vulnerable learners.
  • Has strong organisational, communication and leadership skills.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Shares our belief that every child deserves the right support, in the right place, at the right time.
