What skills and experience we're looking for

Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.

Good literacy and numeracy skills, equivalent to Level 2 in English and Maths.

Experience of working effectively with children and young people, ideally within a primary school or educational setting.

Experience of identifying and supporting children who face barriers to learning, including difficulties relating to behaviour, motivation, attendance, wellbeing or engagement.

Ability to build positive, trusting and professional relationships with children and provide effective one-to-one and small-group support.

Experience of delivering or supporting targeted interventions, setting appropriate targets and monitoring children’s progress.

A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection, with the ability to recognise concerns, maintain professional boundaries and follow school procedures.

Ability to work positively with parents and carers, building strong relationships and involving families in supporting their child.

Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, senior leaders and external agencies to ensure children receive appropriate support.

An understanding of SEND, inclusion and the importance of removing barriers so that all pupils can participate successfully in school life.

Good communication, organisation and record-keeping skills, including the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

A calm, patient and nurturing approach, alongside the ability to maintain high expectations for children’s behaviour, engagement and achievement.

A commitment to equality, inclusion and safeguarding, and a willingness to undertake relevant training and continuing professional development.

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and proactive Learning Mentor who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers and succeed in school.

The successful candidate will work with individual pupils and small groups, providing targeted support and interventions to improve engagement, wellbeing, confidence and attitudes towards learning.

The role will involve identifying barriers to learning and working closely with teachers, the SENCO and senior leaders to ensure pupils receive the right support at the right time.

A key part of the role will be developing strong, positive relationships with children, providing a trusted adult who can motivate, challenge and empower them.

The Learning Mentor will also support pupils where attendance, behaviour or disengagement may be affecting their education and contribute to appropriate strategies and interventions.

You will work closely with parents and carers, helping to build positive home-school relationships and ensuring families are involved in supporting their child.

You will work as part of our wider school team and, where appropriate, alongside external agencies and professionals to help children and families access additional support.

We are looking for someone who is calm, approachable, resilient and solution-focused, with high expectations for every child.

Safeguarding is central to the role. The successful candidate must be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and will be expected to follow all school safeguarding procedures.
