Learning Mentor job summary

We are looking for a Learning Mentor to join our team here at Medeshamstede!

We have an exciting new opportunity to appoint an enthusiastic and caring Learning Mentor to support Teachers to ensure that pupils engage more effectively with their learning and help increase levels of achievement through appropriate provision. They will also be required to cover PPA across the academy and work with both individual pupils and small groups. This is a great opportunity to combine mentoring skills whilst working in a supportive environment.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working with children with ASD.
  • Can act as a role model, challenge and motivate, promote and reinforce self-esteem and establish productive working relationships with pupils.
  • Has high expectations of and can act in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and relevant legislation, particularly in relation to child protection and behaviour management.
  • Is able to demonstrate a range of behaviour management strategies.
  • Has the ability to engage constructively with and relate to a wide range of young people from different backgrounds.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, at all levels and is very well organised.
  • Is motivated, independent and has high expectations of themselves, always striving for the best.

About us:

The Medeshamstede Academy opened in a new building in June 2013 to provide education for students from 4- 16 years. We are an all through Academy in which our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for communication and interaction with a diagnosis of Autism and/or SEMH as their main presenting need.

We are looking for someone who can show enthusiasm and commitment to leading and developing our academy within their areas of direct responsibility.

Medeshamstede Academy opened in 2012 as a new, purpose-built provision within Greenwood Academies Trust. All pupils have an Education, Health and Care plan with autism as their main presenting need. Our curriculum is broad and relevant; delivered through termly themed imaginative learning projects which support appropriate pre-formal, semi-formal and formal learning pathways towards independent learning.
