What skills and experience we're looking for

Our successful SEND team provide opportunities for students with wide ranging difficulties to make excellent progress and we encourage all children to succeed. Our Learning Support Assistants have a variety of skills and we endeavour to make sure that our staff are given high quality professional development to enable them to progress either within our school or beyond. Many of our LSAs have gone on to teach or to take up further positions of responsibility within our school.

Opportunities are given in school to develop a wider range of SEND and inclusion skills which will enhance career progression, for many this has led to a promotion of position and in some cases enrolment onto Teaching courses. We are a team that recognises the worth of the individual, and as such strive to support all SEND students to allow them to be successful in every way and achieve their goals and aspirations. We would welcome applications from enthusiastic candidates who believe in a strong team ethic, have a passion for SEND and Inclusion, can set high expectations for themselves and others, are flexible and adaptable and can demonstrate a resilience in ensuring every individual is recognised for their potential.

We encourage applications both from those wishing to begin a career working in schools and those with experience who wish to further develop their skills and expertise.

Further details are available on the school website - www.mountstmarys.org.

Completed application forms should be returned to Mrs Amanda Stubbs, Headteacher's PA by email - a.stubbs@mountstmarys.org.

Mount St Mary’s is a successful and oversubscribed inner city school located in the very heart of the city. Drawing from three of the four compass points the school flourishes in an atmosphere of engagement and aspiration drawing hugely upon the experiences of our incredibly diverse community.

Belief, education, aspiration and continuous learning are at the core of all that we do. We believe that all our students and staff have limitless potential and it is our responsibility to unlock this and ensure it is realised by all in our care.

Recent inspections describe us as a joyful place, with an authentic mission…clearly embraced by all the school community and foragers a passion… for desiring to give back. Leaders have developed a nurturing school, one in which there is a strong sense of responsibility towards each other. We have a well established reputation for our care, guidance and support ensuring all learners are afforded a high level of structure and personalised development.

In April 2019 the school underwent a Section 48 Inspection gaining an overall judgement of Good with Outstanding. The report comments “Students are polite, confident and respectful in the way they treat each other and interact with staff and visitors. They are .. highly articulate and proud of their school and their personal achievements. Behaviour in school is excellent and a strength of the school as it reflects its Catholic character.”

Our recent 2019 OFSTED Inspection graded our school as 'Good' in all areas. We have a well established reputation for our care, guidance and support, ensuring all learners are afforded a high level of structure and personalised development, recognised within our Ofsted report. All students seek to access extra curricular activities beyond the school day, be that of a sporting nature, academic, performing arts or public speaking. This is an area we value highly and continue to see growth in.

With the return to national progress comparatives in 2022, Mount St Mary’s topped both local and regional tables for P8. This success has been replicated in 2023, where we have actively bucked the vast majority of national trends.
