Learning Support Assistant job summary

King Edward VI Community College is seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to join this highly successful secondary school to support a student with specific learning and physical disabilities.

We are looking for an inspiring, motivated and enthusiastic individual who can support learning and understands the importance of building confidence to enable access to the curriculum. An understanding of SEND, together with patience, resilience and a willingness to learn, is essential.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will support a named student to access learning, including providing mobility and some intimate care support, and will work as part of a wider SEND team to promote independence, engagement and wellbeing.

Essential qualities and experience

The successful candidate will:

Have experience of working with young people

Have an understanding of how young people learn and develop

Be able to support access to the curriculum through adaptable and responsive approaches

Be able to take initiative and respond flexibly to changing needs

Be willing and able to provide mobility support and intimate care with dignity and sensitivity

Work effectively as part of a team

Demonstrate patience, empathy, resilience and a positive outlook

Desirable qualities and experience

Experience of working with students with SEND, particularly physical disabilities

Experience of supporting students requiring mobility or intimate care

Knowledge of strategies to support confidence, independence and inclusion

Experience of working within a school or educational setting

The candidate will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK.
