What skills and experience we're looking for
Essential skills and experience
- Effective use of ICT to support learning
- Understanding of relevant polices/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation
- Experience of supporting teaching and learning in an educational setting, delivering appropriate high quality interventions to support learning outcomes
- Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills; able to communicate effectively and clearly with a range of staff, children, young people, their families and careers
- Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
- Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality, including following general data protection regulations
- Ability to relate to students in a pleasant and empathetic manner and to recognise potential child safeguarding issues
Desirable
- Experience of working in a school environment with deaf students
- A good knowledge of hearing technology, its functionality and undertake basic troubleshooting and repairs
- Knowledge of behaviour management, including issues specifically relating to deaf children

To work under the direct instruction of the class teacher and SENCo, usually in the classroom with the teacher, to support access to learning for pupils and provide general support to the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. The job is carried out using skills, knowledge and equipment within a specific context, working with children with additional challenges which may be learning, physical, emotional or behavioural. The role is to support pupils, including those with a hearing impairment.
