Learning Support Assistant – Level 1 job summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team. The role involves providing support for children who require additional help, working both in the classroom and around school to help pupils make academic, social, emotional and behavioural progress.

The successful candidate will be passionate about supporting all children, be flexible in their approach, and work well as part of a team.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Assist class teachers and the wider team in engaging children with the curriculum

  • Provide support during lunchtimes, both in the lunch halls and in the playground

  • Support children experiencing difficulties with their emotions, behaviour, social interactions, or other aspects of school or home life

  • Occasionally assist with whole-class supervision during teachers’ planned lessons

  • Build caring, supportive and trusting relationships with children

  • Carry out personal care routines where appropriate

  • Assist in creating and developing resources for use in and out of the classroom

  • Communicate and collaborate with parents under the guidance of the class teacher/SENDCo

FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED:

  • A willingness to undertake training relevant to the role (Level 1 qualification desirable)

  • School based references from the last 2 years (Desirable)

  • A DBS on the update service or happy to complete a new one

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.

  • Previous experience of working with children (desirable for Level 1).

  • A proven ability to use their initiative

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to relate positively to children and adults

  • The ability to use relevant technology/equipment

  • A positive, can-do attitude

  • Flexibility and the ability to work well within a team

Hours

  • The role is term-time only (38 weeks per year)

  • 24 hours per week, for the right candidate we can be flexible around the weekly working pattern

Salary

  • PS3 - Fully time equivalent (FTE) £24,510

  • Actual salary (24 hours, 38 weeks): £13,696 - £13,944 per annum (pro rata)
