This post is primarily classroom-based, supporting pupils with additional needs alongside the class teacher. You'll be a key part of the classroom team, helping lessons run smoothly and ensuring pupils with additional needs can access learning and make progress.
Day to day, you'll be:
- Supporting pupils in class during lessons, keeping them on task and engaged
- Working with small groups or individual pupils when targeted support is needed
- Providing learning breaks for pupils who need them, helping them regulate and re-engage
- Reading with pupils and supporting the development of early literacy skills
- Giving regular feedback to the class teacher on how pupils are responding to activities and tasks
- Assisting with day-to-day classroom admin, including preparing resources, producing worksheets and maintaining pupil records
- Supporting pupils with routines and transitions throughout the school day
- Contributing to individual Education Plans and annual reviews
- Liaising with parents and external professionals as appropriate, under the direction of the class teacher and SENDCo
You don't need to be a specialist SEND practitioner for this role, but previous experience supporting children with additional needs in a classroom setting is advised. You'll need to be organised, dependable, and genuinely invested in helping every child succeed.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
