Learning Support Assistant - Specialist Resource Provision job summary
Robin Hood Primary and Nursery School is looking to appoint a caring, enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant to join our growing Specialist Resource Provision for pupils with mild to moderate autism.
This is an exciting time to join our school. From September 2026, our specialist resource provision will be expanded to support 14 pupils, enabling more children to access specialist support while remaining part of a vibrant, inclusive mainstream primary school community.
Our provision is led by an experienced school leader and supported by a fantastic, committed team who work closely together to make a real difference every day. We are looking for someone who believes that every child can achieve, who is patient, positive and reflective, and who wants to help pupils develop confidence, communication, independence and a love of learning.
Salary Grade: C3 -5 FTE: £28,617.00 - £29,436.00 (Actual £22,670 - £23,318)
Hours: Total hours per week 33.25 hrs, Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm (½ hour unpaid lunch each day) -plus one extended day until 4:15pm for team meeting
About the roleAs a Learning Support Assistant in our Specialist Resource Provision, you will support pupils both within the provision and during carefully planned opportunities to learn and play alongside their peers in the mainstream school. You will help children access learning, build relationships, regulate their emotions and develop the skills they need to thrive.
The role will include:
supporting pupils with mild to moderate autism in small group and individual contexts;
helping pupils access learning within the specialist provision and mainstream classrooms;
supporting communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence;
working closely with teachers, senior leaders, families and external professionals;
contributing to a calm, nurturing and highly inclusive environment;
being part of a team that reflects together and celebrates every step of progress.

enjoys working as part of a close and committed team;
understands, or is keen to learn about, autism and inclusive practice;
can build positive relationships with children, staff and families;
is calm under pressure and able to support pupils with empathy and consistency;

Experience of working with children with autism or additional needs would be an advantage, but the right attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to inclusion are just as important.
