Learning Support Professional job summary
This is an incredible opportunity for a Learning Support Professional to make a difference and join a great team of people within a supportive, values-led organisation.
As a Learning Support Professional at Ormiston Beachcroft Academy, you will play a vital role in helping pupils who may have found mainstream education challenging to re-engage with learning and grow in confidence. Working under the direction of teaching staff, you will support individuals and small groups in the classroom, deliver targeted interventions in areas such as literacy, speech and language, behaviour and PSHE, and help pupils manage their behaviour and build positive relationships. You will also contribute to IEPs, support pupils’ emotional and social well-being, and work closely with families and other professionals - including through home visits where required - to support each pupil’s development and reintegration.
We’d love to hear from you if you have experience of working with children in a learning environment and believe every child deserves a fresh start. You’ll have good literacy and numeracy skills (at least level 2 in English and Maths, or equivalent), confident IT skills, and a good understanding of how children learn and develop. Perhaps you’ve already supported pupils with additional needs - such as social, emotional and mental health needs, ASD or ADHD - or perhaps you’re simply passionate about doing so. You’ll be a warm, clear communicator and a supportive team player who enjoys building strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues alike, and you’ll share our commitment to inclusion and to keeping every child safe and supported. Full training, including first aid, will be provided.
About our Academy
Located in Westminster Ormiston Beachcroft Academy provides a caring environment based on integrity, mutual respect, and understanding. It seeks to reignite passion in education and aspiration. Each learner is treated as an individual and is supported to develop within an environment that develops a love of learning and the ability to create social and emotional skills fit for the world outside of education.
Our approach considers our young people’s education experiences to date, their social-emotional health, their mental health, their family situation and experiences, and their special educational needs (SEN). We work closely with professionals, families, and other practitioners to affect change in our young people’s lives, ensuring our work is holistic and therefore creates success by any means for all our children. We are proud of the work that we do, and the environment of our school is caring supportive, and inclusive. We believe that through this approach we support our children, enhancing their quality of life and promoting the realisation of their aspirations.
Ofsted (September 2021) commented:
“Pupils enjoy coming to Ormiston Beachcroft Academy. Staff work closely with pupils. They find out about their needs and the barriers to learning they may have had at their previous schools. Pupils said that they know the staff cares about them and their well-being.”
