Level 1 Teaching Assistant job summary

We are looking for initially someone to work in a Year 3 classroom and for someone who believes in creating an environment for children that is fun, safe, exciting, ambitious and full of care. We want our children to feel nurtured, listened to and to know that every adult in our school will ‘think outside the box’ to ensure their days are excellent.

You will be expected to assist the class teacher within the classroom as well as taking small groups of children or 1:1 and supporting them. Key skills we are looking for include; working with initiative, being pro-active, building relationships with children and families and being flexible. You may be required to work in different classrooms within the school. Our teaching assistants are not attached to one class, they work across the school. The work is varied.

For this role, you will need to:

  • have previous experience of working with primary aged children within a school setting, preferably KS1 or KS2.
  • have confidence in dealing with pupils with different abilities and additional needs
  • possess good interpersonal and communication skills
  • know how to build relationships with children, families and colleagues
  • be good at working as part of a wider team
  • demonstrate some understanding of The National Curriculum
  • have up to date knowledge of assessing children
  • be able to work on your own with groups of children, directing and adapting learning according to the needs and expected outcomes
  • have an up to date knowledge of safeguarding children
  • be adaptable, flexible and resilient to the day to day rigours of school life.

We can offer you:

  • the chance to be part of a welcoming and committed team
  • high quality professional development including thorough safeguarding training
  • an opportunity to get to know children and their families who generally love life and learning
  • a caring workplace where we value you and your welfare
  • opportunities to be part of trust networks and expert groups

Short listed candidates will be observed working with a small group of children at Stratford Primary as part of the interview process.

We welcome visits to the school for your own understanding of how we teach children. It will not influence the application process. Please email admin2042@welearn365.com to make an appointment.
