The Governors are seeking to appoint two outstanding Teaching Assistants for the early years team at Dallam Primary School. The successful candidates will work alongside the existing team to support our children, helping them access learning, develop independence and make strong progress. Postholders will support early years classroom learning, behaviour and inclusion, working under the direction of teachers and senior staff to help every pupil access the curriculum.

What you'll be doing

- Support individuals and small groups in early years lessons, following teacher plans and adapting approaches to meet pupils' needs and learning styles.

- Contribute to observations and assessments of children’s learning, recording progress as requested by the class teacher.

- Adjust activities for the pupils you are working with to support individual needs and different learning styles.

- Supervise pupils during class activities and ensure their safety, participation and wellbeing.

- Use agreed strategies to promote positive behaviour and independence; respond promptly to minor incidents in line with school policy.

- Communicate effectively with children, parents and other staff to support learning and progress.

- Prepare and maintain classroom resources, support the use of ICT in learning activities and provide basic clerical support (photocopying, filing, displays) when required.

- Support pupils on visits and during out-of-class activities as needed.

What we're looking for

Essential

- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in supporting teaching and learning.

- Minimum 2 years' experience working with children in the early years or primary age range.

- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and understand classroom roles and responsibilities.

- Ability to contribute to observations and assessments of children’s learning and to adjust activities to meet individual needs.

- Ability to build positive working relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues and to promote inclusion and equal access to learning.

- A positive approach to managing children’s behaviour and promoting independence.

- Good literacy and numeracy skills.

- Willingness to participate in required training and to undertake paediatric first aid if asked.

Desirable

- Experience of working with children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) would be an advantage.

- Training or experience in special educational needs strategies and supporting specific learning programmes.

- Experience of preparing resources and using ICT to support learning and basic office equipment.

About the team

You will be part of the early years classroom team at Dallam Primary School, reporting to the headteacher and working closely with class teachers and senior staff. The role expects close cooperation with colleagues to promote pupils' learning, behaviour and wellbeing.
