Librarian job summary
In this role, you won't just manage books—you will curate a vibrant hub of imagination, digital literacy, and discovery for our students and staff. Foster a Love for Reading: Guide students to their next favourite book and host engaging literacy events (like book fairs and author visits). Manage the Space: Maintain, organise, and modernise our library collection, ensuring it reflects a diverse and inclusive world.
Key Role Descriptors
The role of Librarian will be to organise, manage and develop library resources. They will provide information in support of the curriculum and in response to the needs of students and staff, and for promoting literacy and the enjoyment of reading in all its forms.
The post holder will:
Maintain resources and materials within the agreed organisational frameworks and using agreed processes and procedures so that they can be retrieved and used by staff and students
Support and develop the Library as an effective learning environment, which may include ensuring cleanliness and tidiness, putting up and maintaining displays and information boards, supporting exhibitions and one-off events.
Support and assist with ‘literacy lessons’ skills programmes and induction sessions for students and staff. Work closely with the English Faculty and the Literacy Coordinator to promote and support literacy across the school. Including leading small group intervention sessions.
Use ICT skills to support the administrative needs of the Library, which may include, for example, word processing, purchasing and ordering and the maintenance of files, records and data.
Be responsible for library stock and consumables, including receipt, storage, ordering, purchasing and security.
Promote good order and student discipline, which is consistent with the behaviour policy and the culture and ethos of the school. The postholder is expected to intervene where necessary and know when and how to refer relevant discipline and behaviour matters to more senior school staff.
Develop and continue current break and lunch activities/duty
Work in accordance with the values, culture ethos, equalities and inclusion policies of the school proactively and in the day-to-day operation of the job.
Take appropriate action to identify, evaluate and minimise any risks to health, safety and security in the immediate working environment.
Complete school based induction and any subsequent training required to improve performance.
Take part in the school performance management system.
