We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-organised librarian to lead the development of our school library here at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy. Your main priority will be to promote and foster a love of reading across our school, in keeping with our strong culture of valuing literacy at all levels. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the library resources, supporting the Literacy Co-ordinator with whole-school initiatives, supporting the delivery of reading interventions and ensuring that the library is a welcoming, inclusive space for all of our wonderful students.


Key responsibilities:

·        Be an ambassador for reading for pleasure across all year groups.

·        Work closely with the subject leader team to ensure that the library supports the delivery of our curriculum.

·        Organise and manage the library stock, keeping the catalogue up-to-date and ensuring that digital resources are well-organised.

·        Supervise and support students using the library during lessons, before/after school, and at break and lunchtimes.

·        Organise and facilitate reading initiatives, author visits and other events that encourage engagement.

·        Deliver reading interventions, with the support of the Literacy Co-ordinator.

·        Support 6th Form students with their independent research skills.

·        Ensure the library remains a stimulating and inspiring space. 


The successful candidate will:

·        Have previous experience of working in a library setting, although full training will be provided.

·        Have excellent organisational and communication skills.

·        Be passionate about working with young people.

·        Be confident in using digital tools and online platforms.

·        Embrace working collaboratively with staff and students.

·        Have a deep understanding of the benefits of reading for pleasure, and model this.
