Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
St Mary’s Rickmansworth Church of England Primary School
Salary: Support Staff Grade (Hertfordshire range)
Hours: 31.5 hours/week (including break duties) plus 8 hours for After School Club
Contract: Term-time (39 weeks) + 5 inset days

Purpose of the Role
To support pupils with additional learning needs—in class and small groups—ensuring they can access the curriculum meaningfully and thrive as confident, resilient learners.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Support
Assist teachers to deliver inclusive, meaningful learning experiences.
Support learners individually or in small groups, especially those with SEND.
Help prepare resources and adapt activities to meet diverse learning needs.
Monitor, record, and communicate pupil progress and behaviour within a reflective framework.
Maintain a respectful, positive classroom presence, modelling our code of conduct.
Safeguarding & Professional Conduct
Follow school policies on behaviour, safeguarding, equality, and cohesion.
Report any concerns promptly and professionally.
Engage in training opportunities, including SEND, first aid, and Prevent.
Embedding Values & Ethos
Foster respectful relationships with children, staff, families, and outside agencies.
Promote the British Values agenda through everyday practice.
Encourage pupil voice via eco, sports, and ethos councils.
Contribute to nurturing spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development.
After-School Club Duties
As part of the extended school team, you will:
Be a warm, child-centred presence at our after-school club—encouraging safe play and positive social interaction.
Plan and supervise a mix of structured and free-time activities that develop social, creative, and physical skills.
Model and reinforce school values—respectful, ready, reflective—in a relaxed setting.
Identify and include quieter children, supporting them to join group games and conversations.
Maintain a safe, tidy environment and ensure the smooth handover to parents and carers.
Person Specification
Essential | Desirable |
---|---|
Experience working with primary-aged children, especially SEND | Experience as part of an after-school or wrap-around team |
Strong communication and team-working skills | Formal coaching or playwork qualification |
Patience, resilience, empathy, and adaptability | First Aid / Safeguarding training |
Understanding of inclusive practice | Knowledge of British Values implementation |
Commitment to safeguarding and high professional standards | Experience with pupil leadership initiatives |
