Maths KS5 Leader job summary

The role

We offer an ambitious and challenging Key Stage 5 curriculum designed to develop students’ mathematical understanding, problem-solving skills and confidence, while driving excellent outcomes for our students. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading KS5 provision, driving standards, and ensuring consistently high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate teacher and leader to shape and refine curriculum design, support colleagues in delivering engaging and intellectually challenging lessons, and use assessment intelligently to maximise student progress and attainment. You will be instrumental in leading effective intervention and support strategies, monitoring student progress, and ensuring that all students are fully prepared to achieve their potential in external examinations and make successful transitions to higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

The Mathematics department is a particular strength of the school. We pride ourselves on fostering a culture that is both supportive and collaborative, where staff feel genuinely valued and thrive as part of a team of experienced and reflective practitioners. Professional development is a priority, and you will be fully supported in your leadership role within a welcoming and forward-thinking department.

A love of Mathematics and a passion for developing students’ mathematical thinking are central to our curriculum. You will join a team committed to inspiring students to engage deeply with the subject, develop resilience in problem-solving and appreciate the relevance and beauty of Mathematics beyond the classroom. The department offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including extension and problem-solving sessions, mathematical competitions, targeted revision and intervention programmes, and opportunities to explore Mathematics beyond the A Level curriculum.

As KS5 Maths Lead, you will have a key role in developing a culture of high expectations and academic ambition. You will work closely with colleagues to ensure a coherent and challenging curriculum across Years 12 and 13, support effective transition from KS4, and promote opportunities for students to develop the independent learning skills required for success at KS5 and beyond. You will also contribute to wider whole-school initiatives and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that our most able mathematicians are challenged and supported to fulfil their potential.
