The Bridge School, Sedgemoor are seeking to appoint a permanent full time Class Teacher – MPS/UPS to start as soon as possible. We are looking for dynamic, resilient and flexible teachers who can deliver Maths to join our team.

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is one of four Pupil Referral Units commissioned by Somerset County Council and Somerset schools. We provide services through a number of centres for students who have a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. All students are referred through their mainstream schools in the Sedgemoor area.

The Bridge School, Sedgemoor is the Pupil Referral Unit for mainstream schools in Sedgemoor, we support a number of students across the age range from 4 - 16 years where they are at risk or have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. We are looking for dynamic, positive, creative and resilient practitioners who can support children and young people across the school.

We are seeking a passionate, qualified Maths teacher to join our dedicated and nurturing team. We are looking for someone who can build trusting and positive relationships with young people based on relational practice, nurture principles and a trauma based approach.

Key responsibilities:

  • To deliver engaging and effective Maths lessons to young people in key stage 3 and 4 (across two of the school sites)
  • Plan and prepare adaptive lessons in line with the curriculum
  • Teach both Functional skills and GCSE courses
  • Assess and monitor student progress
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Collaborate with colleagues to adapt and develop the curriculum to meet the diverse range of needs
  • To adopt relevant SEND strategies to ensure appropriate and effective support is in place for our young people

The successful candidate must be willing to travel across the different sites of the school to be able to deliver the curriculum to different groups of young people.

There is a need to be flexible in their approach, be sympathetic to the individual needs of students and be able to differentiate to a high level to work within our multi-site school in the Bridgwater area. Ideally you should have experience working with young people who may have significant gaps in their education to help them re-engage in their learning.

There will be opportunities for career progression as part of the wider partnership of schools, as The Bridge works within a formal partnership with both Polden Bower and Avalon Schools.
