What skills and experience we're looking for

Chosen Hill School is seeking to appoint a highly organised, caring and professional Medical Officer and School Administrator to lead the health and first aid provision for our students, staff and visitors.

This is a rewarding and varied role at the heart of our school community, combining the management of our Medical Room with administrative support duties. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting student health, wellbeing and inclusion, ensuring that medical conditions do not present unnecessary barriers to learning and participation.

The role includes coordinating first aid provision, administering medication, maintaining healthcare records, supporting students with a range of medical needs, preparing Individual Healthcare Plans, and working closely with parents, healthcare professionals and school staff. Particular responsibility will be given to supporting students with allergies and other long-term medical conditions, ensuring robust processes and effective communication are in place to keep students safe.

Chosen Hill School is a large secondary school of almost 1,300 students based in the semi-rural village of Churchdown, situated between Cheltenham and Gloucester.

The successful candidate will ideally:

  • Hold a recognised First Aid qualification (or be willing to obtain one).
  • Have experience supporting individuals with medical, health or welfare needs.
  • Be confident managing medication, healthcare records and sensitive information.
  • Have excellent organisational and administrative skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Have excellent IT skills, including a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams, with the ability to produce reports, analyse data and maintain accurate records.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and external agencies.
  • Be calm, professional and able to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Have experience working within a school, healthcare or similar customer-facing environment (desirable).

Commitment to safeguarding

“Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has an important role to play in safeguarding children. School staff are particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children to prevent concerns from escalating. All school staff have a responsibility to provide a safe environment in which children can learn. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.”(Keeping Children Safe in Education, 2022)
