Midday Assistant - Hatchside Infants and Juniors job summary

About the Role
As a Midday Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting pupils with complex needs during the lunchtime period. You’ll help create a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment—supporting mealtime routines, encouraging social interaction, and assisting with personal care where needed.
This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing and development of our pupils in a meaningful way.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supervising pupils during lunch in the dining hall, playground, and across the school
- Assisting with feeding programmes and personal care needs
- Encouraging positive behaviour and independence
- Supporting play activities and pupil engagement
- Escorting pupils safely around the school
- Promoting health, safety, and safeguarding at all times

Astrum Multi Academy Trust is a vibrant, forward-thinking Trust dedicated to providing exceptional education for pupils with Severe and Complex SEND across Redbridge and the surrounding areas. Astrum was formed 2017 following the academisation of Newbridge School, an all through special school for pupils with a range of Severe and Complex Special Educational Needs across the London Borough of Redbridge and beyond. Hatchside School opened in April 2021 as a new 64 place special school, in response to the growing numbers of pupils requiring specialist placements. It’s curriculum and practice are founded on the principles of early intervention and assessment, particularly as pupils are currently aged 2-7 (EYFS/KS1). We admit pupils who have severe and profound learning difficulties with a range of special educational needs including; Sensory impairments/Autistic spectrum disorders/associated behaviours/physical and medical needs. The school serves a multi ethnic population, which reflects the diversity of the borough and East London.
