Midday Supervisor job summary
Main purpose of the job
As a Midday Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our pupils have a safe and enjoyable lunchtime experience. Your responsibilities will include setting up the dinner hall, supervising children, cleaning tables, and encouraging positive play. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a lively and dynamic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervision
Supervise children during lunchtime, ensuring a safe and positive environment
Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure a smooth lunchtime experience
Encourage pupils to eat their lunch and monitor those who don’t, reporting any concerns to the class teacher
Support children in developing good eating habits and table manners
Encourage positive interactions and play among pupils
Monitor pupils that aren’t engaging in positive play and feedback any concerns to class teachers
Follow the schools Behaviour and safeguarding policy at all times
Address any minor first aid needs that may arise
Organisation
Set up and put away the tables, benches and other equipment needed for eating in the lunch area
Manage pupils’ entrance and exit from the lunch area in an orderly and safe manner
Clean up food and water spillages Clean tables, floor and maintain the safety and tidiness of the dining area at all times
Health and Safety
Observe pupils and the environment and act to minimise any identified health and safety risks
Deliver first aid to respond to minor incidents and refer any major incidents to a qualified first aider
Record details of incidents in line with the school’s reporting procedures
Be aware of and support pupils with medical/dietary needs
Promote the school’s policy around healthy eating to pupils
Feedback concerns relating to pupils’ health and safety to a senior member of staff
Behaviour
Ensure that the pupils’ maintain our behavioural expectations and follow our RESPECT values during lunchtime, be a positive role model at all times
Report any incidents of serious misbehaviour immediately to the relevant staff member, in line with the school’s behaviour policy
Take necessary action to minimise disruption and harm to pupils, in line with the school’s behaviour policy
Make sure children tidy up after themselves in the lunch area and when using play resources/equipment
Follow any directions from class teachers on supporting specific pupils with challenging behaviour
Play
Organise play activities to encourage pupils to play and make use of play equipment
Offer educational instruction where needed to help pupils to share play equipment
Help to resolve issues between pupils during play activities
Safeguarding
Make sure pupils remain on the school premises during the midday break
Look out for any unidentified visitors approaching the school and follow the school’s procedures for approaching/reporting individuals
Other areas of responsibilities
Follow the CET code of conduct at all times, including use of social media and acceptable behaviour outside of school.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
Read and follow the relevant school policies Undertake training required to develop in the role –
Annual safeguarding training and regular top up sessions are non-negotiable
