What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking applications from successful nursery teachers and Early Career Teachers. However, we will also consider applications from those with experience in teaching – or who have trained to teach – in reception. The successful applicant will hold either Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS). The school has a strong track record of successfully supporting Early Career Teachers through their induction period.

Candidates will be confident and passionate teachers and people who demonstrate high expectations, a flexible and resilient attitude to challenge and a commitment to providing the highest quality learning opportunities which support the education of the whole child.

What the school offers its staff

As a teacher at our school, you will:

  • be given the freedom to focus on what you do best - teach!
  • be passionate about teaching and learning, with the ability to inspire and motivate
  • be an innovative and reflective practitioner who is keen to learn and develop your practice based on instructional coaching and other feedback, training and reading
  • be committed to a research-based approach to teaching and learning
  • have a positive and ‘can do’ attitude
  • be a team player who can work effectively and collaboratively with other colleagues

We can offer you:

  • an excellent Early Career Framework and professional development programme delivered by highly experienced colleagues
  • wonderful, enthusiastic and well-behaved pupils who are extremely keen to learn
  • a generous PPA allowance
  • high adult-to-child ratios
  • opportunities to work with specialist music teachers to develop your practice
  • dedicated time to work with colleagues to collaboratively improve your teaching practice through our unique Lesson Study approach
  • fantastic opportunities for career development, including access to all National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)
  • a school that genuinely invests in people
  • complimentary refreshments from our Staff Lounge
  • a free lunchtime meal provided by our onsite catering team
  • subsidised wraparound care for your children
  • a Health Cash Plan, including subsidised dental and optical care

Further details about the role

Applications from both experienced colleagues and Early Career Teachers are equally and warmly welcomed.

We can offer successful Early Career Teachers the opportunity to start their induction with us in July 2023 to ensure they are very well prepared to teach their first class in September.

Someries Infant School and Early Childhood Education Centre believes that its workforce should reflect its community and that all groups within the community should have equal access to the school’s employment opportunities.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, disability, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation or age. We are also committed to improving flexible working opportunities so would encourage teachers who wish to work flexibly to apply, including those seeking job-shares.

Commitment to safeguarding

Someries Infant School and Early Childhood Education Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
