Paraeducator Polaris job summary

Our vision is that Newmarket Academy will be an outstanding school. We strive to be the best we can be in all areas. We aim to be the school of choice, serving the local area and an outstanding school in the Unity Schools Partnership.

Do you want to work in an exciting and dynamic environment, in a semi-rural setting between Cambridge & Bury St Edmunds and part of a supportive trust that will be there throughout your training & career development?

If so, then Newmarket Academy may just what you’re looking for. The academy is on a journey of rapid transformation and this position represents a unique opportunity to play a significant part in the development of the school into an outstanding provider which the community can be proud of.

The academy is a growing 11-16 school within the successful Unity Schools Partnership trust. The ability to collaborate with partner and research schools provides huge opportunities for developing cutting-edge teaching methods that inspire and excite all learners to succeed.

In May 2017 Newmarket Academy was rated 'good' by Ofsted and is about to embark on a new and exciting chapter in its journey to ‘excellence’. As part of its mission to serve the community, to be a beacon for inclusion and to improve access to education for all learners, Newmarket Academy has opened Polaris, a specialist environment for learners with social, communication and interaction difficulties. The learners will be young people with autism spectrum condition or attachment difficulties. The aspiration of the unit is to support these learners to access education in their local community, where they can grow, learn and flourish alongside their peers, and build relationships and skills for a positive life trajectory.

We are looking for a Paraeducator with the ability to build facilitative relationships with learners with social, communication and interaction difficulties. We need a resilient and resourceful member of the team who is experienced in nurturing the self-confidence and self-esteem of this learner group. The role will include:

  • Building facilitative relationships with staff and learners through mentalising them
  • Supporting learners into mainstream lessons and in Polaris
  • Advocating for learners
  • Participating in the wider life of the school
  • Keeping up to date with developments in the field of communication and interaction

The unit offers an incredibly supportive team of professionals, including a Specialist Lead Practitioner, and the support of an excellent leadership team. All staff are invited to draw on the wider Trust for additional support, professional development and career progression opportunities.

What we offer includes:

  • Newly refurbished learning spaces with state of the art interactive white boards and sound systems
  • An excellent programme of induction into the Academy with supportive and dynamic staff
  • Outstanding career development and CPD opportunities across the Trust
  • Annual Well-being day

In return our successful candidate will be:

  • An excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations
  • Able to inspire and challenge students
  • Committed to raising standards for all
  • Able to adapt to changing circumstances and embrace and initiate new ideas

Prospective candidates are invited to visit the Academy and meet the team. Please contact Claire Bailey PA to the Headteacher on01638 664412or emailclaire.bailey@newmarketacademy.co.ukto make an appointment.
